It has been three months since the announcement of the approval of concept and planning for a world-class Aquatic Centre at St John’s as a strategic initiative within the Sustainability Enterprise.

The planning for this $16million world-class facility in 2025 is underway as we are now at the stage of refining the concept plans in readiness for an application to the Block Grant Authority (BGA) in March 2022. The BGA is a not-for-profit organisation that receives capital funds to provide independent schools in Queensland, under legislation and guidelines of both the Australian and Queensland Governments.

While the BGA will not provide any funding for the swimming pool itself, the hope is to receive partial funding for the areas of educational need including the additional flexible learning spaces.

Further meetings with the architect are scheduled for next month to progress the concept plans.

As we continue to experience exponential enrolment growth across the College, planning and development of our facilities to accommodate student numbers remains a priority.  In addition to the flexible learning spaces within the Aquatic Centre, on the Secondary Campus the St John’s Year 7 Precinct Redevelopment is on track for completion for the start of Term One to welcome our 2022 cohort. The Boulevard Precinct also on the Secondary Campus has recently received a refurbishment with freshly painted classrooms and a number of new table tennis tables in the communal area.

While on the Junior Campus initial discussion and planning has commenced to develop a further two classrooms which will reduce the need to share spaces with some of our specialised lessons.
