St John’s Year Five students and their teachers were excited to be able to call the two new classrooms on the Junior campus home at the end of 2022. A welcomed addition to the Junior Campus in many aspects.

The rooms not only offered a new and vibrant space for teaching and learning, they also provide greater flexibility for student collaboration large enough to accommodate the whole Year Five cohort for inquiry and collaboration. The added bonus of new furniture provides student agency in the way they would like to learn and work – small groups, individual laptop desks and stand-up pods being the highlight for students.

The flexible learning space has been complimented with the inclusion of a retractable glass wall between the classrooms, enabling the teachers to pull it back to create one large learning space. With more natural light entering these spaces, it encourages a comfortable and vibrant environment that surges student concentration and motivation levels.

The outside space below these rooms has also been a welcomed addition for all students in Upper Junior being regularly used as a breakout space for music and drama lessons. The concreted floor has also allowed the children to regularly compete in the ‘Handball World Cup’ each break time!
